Lou Gehrig beings his consecutive games streak:

On this day in 1925, in a game against the Washington Senators at Yankee Stadium, Lou Gehrig came off the bench in the eighth inning to pinch hit for Pee Wee Wanninger and replace Wally Pip at first base in the ninth inning. Gehrig would go on to appear in the next 2,130 games consecutively. It’s known that the next day he famously replaced Wally Pip at first base, but actually Gehrig’s streak started the day prior. He’d go on to play 126 games in 1925, but 1926 is when Gehrig became Gehrig, hitting over .300 and driving in over 100 runs the following year.
Mel Ott milestones:

On this day in 1941, Mel Ott hit his 400th career Home Run, a two-run homer. This home run would give him his 1,499th and 1,500th career RBI. Mel Ott was only 32 that day and went on to play for six more years after 1941. Finishing his career as one of the eight players in history to finish their career with over 500 home runs and 1,500 RBI while maintaining a lifetime average above .300.
