On this day in baseball history, the 13th of June, the following noteworthy events occurred.

Christy Matthewson wins 300th game:

In 1912, Christy Matthewson became the eighth pitcher in baseball history to earn his 300th career Win. In front of 12,000 fans at the old Polo Grounds field, the Giants were taking on the Chicago Cubs, the team that, seven years on that date, Matthewson threw a no-hitter against. Matthewson went the full nine innings, striking out eight batters, walking one batter, allowing six hits and only one earned run. He would also drive in a run at the plate as the Giants defeated the Cubs 3-2.

Yankees Honor Babe Ruth, retire his number:

On this day in 1947, a Sunday afternoon with a bit of foul weather at Yankee Stadium, 58,339 fans came as the Yankees and the members of the 1923 Yankees team came to honor Babe Ruth as they retired his number. Ruth was fighting through cancer, and it was very likely that his days alive were numbered. Quite a few people spoke on his behalf during the ceremony, then Ruth, with some help, approached the microphone to express his appreciation. He talked to players on the team, like DiMaggio and Berra; he left a little after the ceremony due to illness and died a little more than two months later.

Roger Clemens reaches 300th Win/4,000th career Strike Out:

On this day in 2003, Roger Clemens took the mound on a Friday night game against the St. Louis Cardinals. In front of 55,214 fans in attendance, Clemens was looking for his 300th career Win and was only four away from 4,000 career Strikeouts. Only allowing two earn runs in 6 2-3 innings and 120 pitches thrown, he gave the ball to the bullpen with a 3-2 lead, and the Yankees would win the game 5-2, with Clemens earning his 300th Win, also striking out ten batters which gave him another milestone with 4,006 career Strikeouts.
