Bobby Cox takes back the Managers job for Atlanta Braves:

On this day in 1990, Bobby Cox, who had been the Braves manager nine years prior, was serving as the Braves GM for the last few seasons. With the team’s lack of success and attendance, Cox decided to relieve Russ Nixon and make himself the Manager. After the season, he chose to stay as the team’s Manager and handed the Braves GM job to John Schulerholtz. From 1991-2005 the Braves made the playoffs every year and made multiple trips to the World Series, winning in 1995. During his time as the GM, Bobby Cox was responsible for drafting guys like Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Steve Avery, David Justice, and Chipper Jones, who were all incredibly impactful for the team throughout the 1990s.
