Nolan Arenado is good at baseball, despite the Rockies not being good. Nolan Arenado recorded his 100th RBI of the 2019 season by hitting his 33rd home run of the season against the St Louis Cardinals last week. It is now the fifth straight year that Arenado has reached 30 HRs and 100 RBIs. Arenado currently leads all third baseman with a .981 Fielding Percentage. So there is a good chance that Arenado will win his seventh Gold Glove award in his seven-year career.
Now, don’t get me wrong I think Arenado is an incredible ballplayer with his glove and his bat. But, his statistics aren’t as great as you may think they are. You should know why? About half of the games he has played we’re in Coors Field, which is a hitter-friendly ballpark with it being located 5,200 feet above sea level. The statistics down are Arenado’s yearly statistics with his Home and Away statistics from 2015 -2018.
Nolan Arenado Stats:
2015: 42 HR, 130 RBI, .287 BA, 177 Hits (157 G)
Home: 20 HR, 74 RBI, .316 BA, 98 Hits (78 G)
Away: 22 HR, 56 RBI, .258 BA, 79 Hits (79 G)
2016: 41 HR, 133 RBI, .294 BA, 182 Hits (160 G)
Home: 25 HR, 85 RBI, .312 BA, 97 Hits (79 G)
Away: 16 HR, 48 RBI, .277 BA, 85 Hits (81 G)
2017: 37 HR, 130 RBI, .309 BA, 187 Hits (159 G)
Home: 19 HR, 76 RBI, .336 BA, 99 Hits (78 G)
Away: 18 HR, 58 RBI, .283 BA, 88 Hits (81 G)
2018: 38 HR, 110 RBI, .297 BA, 175 Hits (156 G)
Home: 23 HR, 62 RBI, .347 BA, 100 Hits (80 G)
Away: 15 HR, 48 RBI, .248 BA, 75 Hits (76 G)
Now I’m not saying Arenado statistics look terrible away from Coors Field. He hits a good amount of home runs while driving in a good amount of runs and his batting average is solid. When playing at Coors Field he puts up a good amount of home runs and RBI’s too, but the big difference is he hits well over .300. With the exception of his rookie season, Nolan Arenado has hit well over .300 at Coors Field every year.
My final analysis on Nolan Arenado is that he’s a great all-around player who’s in the best possible location for a hitter. Now, I still believe that Arenado would be a great all-around player even if he didn’t play in Colorado. If Arenado weren’t playing in Colorado half the year his AVG maybe around .250-.275 instead of around .300, but he’d still be a Gold Glove 3B while hitting 30-100 yearly. Hell since Arenado has been very durable throughout his career he’d probably be a 40-110 guy. So if you ask me Nolan Arenado is on the right track for Cooperstown one day even if he only plays for the Rockies his whole career.

Hey there, take a look at DJ Lemahieu, he is having an MVP caliber season with the Yankees and everyone thought he was a Coors product. They were wrong, DJ is a great all around player even when he was at Coors. Now, show me a great player where over his career he didn’t have better numbers at home than on the road. You might be able to count them on one hand. Yes the elevation and huge outfield help, but you still have to be a good ballplayer to play the game.

I am so tired of hearing people make assumptions that players are only good because of the altitude. The balls at Coors are heavier due to the humidor. Many Rockies have more home runs away from Coors. Look at DJ who is now playing for the Yankees. His stats are same as they were at Coors. Look at the distance of many ball field fences, they are much shorter than at Coors field. Yankee Stadium has 314 ‘& 318’ in the corners, Dodger Stadium is 330 at the corners and 395. Coors is 347, 350 & 415 ft. Not to mention the fact that pretty much EVERY player plays better when they’re at home.
